5 Tips to Get the Most from Your Family Photoshoot

Family photoshoots are a wonderful way to bring normally a distant family together to create beautiful moments that will last for years. However, even the most experienced photographer and photo taker can run across some challenges that may take away from the experience or final result of the shoot.

As a family portrait photographer in Seattle with years of experience, I’m here to bring you five ways to make the most out of any session.

Choose A Theme

Creative, personalized themes can be a great way to really make a statement about your family and get the most out of your photoshoot. Whether you want to wear something that represents a special time in your life (i.e. wedding outfits) or simply wear striking matching colors, there are a bunch of ways that you and all of the participants in your photo can look cohesive and captivating while making a statement. Don’t forget to play with texture, patterns, and fun accessories!

Be Prepared

As an experienced family photoshoot photographer in Seattle, that’s seen it all, It can not be overstated that a happy group is a well-prepared group. That means making sure everyone is fed and hydrated. Packing snacks, having diapers, and anything else your young child or baby needs, is of the utmost importance.

Ensuring your group knows what to expect throughout the shoot and even a proper change of clothes can go a long way in making a “long day” seem shorter. From my experience, the more pleasant the experience, the better your photos will be.

Remember, these are pictures you’ll be looking back on in 30-50 years! So make sure you make the most of this special day!

As long as you communicate with everyone (including your photographer) and do your best, your group will be ready for the long haul and many precious memories will be made from it.

Bring Distractions

Jumping off of our last point, small distractions such as game systems, books, and even toys for any small children can be a great way to fill in downtime and keep everyone from becoming cranky and fatigued from boredom. This will be especially important for making sure that your baby or small child has a positive experience.

Have fun

As a family portrait photographer in Seattle, I want to ensure that everyone is captured in their best light. That means having everyone in a pleasant, relaxed mood that will help them present naturally. I always want sincere smiles in every picture. Whatever it is you have planned for your shoot, make sure that everyone’s comfort and safety comes first, and great photos will be sure to follow.
