NYC Day 5

Back to New York… Here are the highlights of our last full day sniff sniff.

To the real Orla Kiely store: GAH! The cuteness.?
 loved this giant fake tv

And the housewares!

And all of the little mini-rooms. Yes, that’s Tom being a good and patient husband while I shopped.

These pictures are out of order – our first stop of the day was the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
I have to admit, I wasn’t too excited about this excursion (again, the give and take of traveling with a boy – aka Tom). But it actually turned out to be kinda fun and educational!

We didn’t stop at the Statue of Liberty – just snapped a few pictures on our way to Ellis Island.

Upon entering Ellis Island  and the Immigration Museum the first thing you see are these stacks of old trunks.

The building was amazing.

My favorite were these large walls of black and whtie photos. And also an exhibit of photos taken during the time when Ellis Island and the Immigration building were abandoned. I didn’t take any photos of these but you can see some of them here. So cool.

For lunch we went to Chelsea Market. I wish we would’ve had more time to explore here. It was very cool. Lunch was scrumptious at Friedman’s Lunch.

And to end our afternoon, Tom and I visited the 911 Memorial. Here are the two new towers being built:

There are two fountain pools – where the twin towers stood. Surrounding each pool are engraved names of those who died on September 11th.

It wasn’t at all what I was expecting – it was very peaceful and a little goose-bumpy to think of what happened that day. And to try and imagine being there. They are in the middle of building a museum between the two fountains that would’ve been cool – as there wasn’t really any information here. Just the fountains and a small grassy/park area. I guess we’ll have to go back. 😉

And finally, to end our day Tom and I had a “date night.” We randomly picked a comedy club – and got to see 6 great comedians – one of them being a favorite from Last Comic Standing several years ago: Gary Gulman. He is hilarious.
